Dream Team Solution
There are things that I live by and a denim – trainers combo is one of them! Typically speaking, I try my best to develop new ensembles every day. Scarf over there. Cuff over here. Jacket layered under there. But, the truth is that as a student it can become an almost impossible task.
Don’t get me wrong, I am pro fashion innovator/exceptional student. However, juggling the two for too long can result in a major backlash from one or the other. In most cases, it will result in a backlash from school. I won’t lie because I am a victim.
Running late due to indecisive outfit decisions and last minute DIY fixes are almost every day for me. If anything that was me just yesterday and I wouldn’t be surprised if it were me again tomorrow. That’s why I had to find a ‘go-to’ that was comfortable yet posh (I totally just said posh because I’m about that life). Not to sound intricate, but that means an outfit that I can move in, confidently show my face in and meet Margaret Zhang in, without any regrets.
For others, a ‘go-to’ outfit consists of a tee with some fresh trousers or maybe even culottes to spice it up. But, I’d be lying if I said I owned more than five tee shirts (don’t ask because I’m not quite sure myself).
My entire closet is full of button ups. Long sleeved. Short sleeved. Printed. Plain. Cotton. Denim. Even one that can only be dry cleaned. With this being said, t -shirts are not convenient for me. So, when I’m a complete mess, trainers, and a jacket are my best friend. I mean just look at these Stan Smith sneakers. I almost fainted when they first touched my hand and now they are my most loyal friend. I also love a great pair of chinos. Exceptional chinos can take you to work, school, the grocery store or even fashion week (If you don’t own any, get them now!). To complete my look, I pick up a cap on my way out and go about my day. The cap has kind of been my thing for years and until my head isn’t the size of Jimmy Neutron’s and my hair doesn’t frizz up like a Jackson 5 wig from Party City, it will continue to be my ‘thing’. Nonetheless, caps are a great accessory and picking them up can become second nature.
Just remember, comfort does’t always mean sweatpants. Save those for when your life is in desperate need of evaluation, or relaxation. In the words of Karl Lagerfeld, “Sweatpants are a sign of defeat. You lost control of your life so you bought sweatpants.”
